When hitting the gym
It’s always great to make sure you’re getting a total body workout to maximize health benefits. So in today’s Motivation to Move, we’re gonna show you why this could be your secret weapon. So today, we’re talking about Kettlebells. – Yes. – Now, they have come to be very popular in the last several years,
– In vogue, if you will, why is that? – Well, they can be highly effective, very portable and versatile, and you can learn to skillfully do a lot of stuff. Everything that you would want from a strength, and strength endurance, strength and conditioning workout, you can get utilizing basic kettlebell techniques. – So when we’re talking about Kettlebells versus a dumbbell, – Yes, – what makes a kettlebell different? – The unique structure of the kettlebell.
The central mass, or center of mass, of the kettlebell extends beyond your grip, then as you do different techniques, like, say, the clean, its position varies on you.
That shifting of the weight can make it more advantageous. – Is that gonna then translate into functionality in our life? – Without question. If you get your legs stronger, your hips stronger, you can walk up stairs better, go down stairs better, and the thing that makes the kettlebell special is that you can use one tool, one, two, three Kettlebells can do a lot for you.
– So you have three exercises you’re gonna show us, using a kettlebell. – Yes. – Okay, the first exercise is called the, – Kettlebell swing, I’m gonna grab it with two hands, this is the two-hand swing.
So I push my pelvis back, have this, pretty much a vertical shin line, and then I pull it in like I’m hiking a football, and my arms go all the way flush to my body and I stand up, ideally you don’t want any motion through the wrist, and notice, I’m looking down as I go down, because you don’t want any motion through the c-spine, your cervical spine, like this.
This would be a conditioning set.
Stimulating. – Love it. – I do. – Let’s move onto the next one! – Clean!
You wanna start with a back swing to get the kettlebell goin’. Notice I have a complimentary swing with my opposite of my unloaded arm, now, as soon as the kettlebell gets over the ground, that’s when I push and pull, and put my hand through.
I think why people really love the kettlebell swing-clean combo is because it works on the things that go awry from sitting a lot. – Right. – So it counters that very naturally.
– I’m kinda starting to love these. Okay, next one we’re gonna do is the, – Is an overhead press. We will clean it, and then you stiffen up, stiffen up through the core and through the hips,
– Oh, one arm? – One arm overhead press.
– So I think the biggest takeaway is, is by incorporating Kettlebells into your routine, it can help your overall daily life.
